Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibititor, that suppresses gastric acid secretion, thus decreasing the overall acidity of the stomach & stomach ulcer occurence.
UlcerGold should be used as well as husbandry measures where possible: reducing stress, increasing intake of roughage (such as hay), increasing access to grazing & reducing periods without access to food; can all help to decrease the chance of gastric ulcers occuring.
UlcerGold should initially be given at a higher dose for 28 days; during this period, one syringe of UlcerGold provides a daily dose for a 700kg horse. After this, UlcerGold should be given for another 28 days at a lower dose to prevent the reoccurence of ulcers. One syringe will provide 4 days of treatment for a 700kg horse.
